New Zealand's clothing company Norsewear said on Sunday that its new deal with China will create new jobs for many New Zealanders.

The company has received an order from China that it is worth close to a million NZ dollars (0.79 million U.S. dollars) for hats, gloves and socks, Radio New Zealand reported on Sunday.

The company said that it is for three times as many of each of the products as the company would normally produce annually.

Norsewear general manager Sandra Shilling said it is the biggest single order in the history of the company.

She said contract manufacturers are already looking for new staff to help fill the order which is due for delivery in three to four months

New Zealand and China signed a free trade agreement on April 7 in Beijing. Some New Zealanders have worried that the free trade deal might cause more New Zealand workers lose jobs in the textile sector.
