According to China Securities Journal, China Unicom will release the details about its sale of Apple inc. iPhone mobiles in Chinese Mainland on August 28. The timetable for iPhone appearing on the market may be clear soon. In addition, China Unicom will also release its 2009 half year fiscal report on August 29.
By now, Apple has sold 26 million iPhones after launching two years ago in more than 80 countries around the globe. But most of the sales have come from the U.S.
Guosen Securities' analysis thinks that iPhone mainly attracts domestic middle and high level customers. ARPU (average revenue per user) suggests that with a different proportion of "normal" and "optimistic" users in 5 million users, 5 million iPhones will bring new annual revenue of 7.2 to 12 billion yuan for China Unicom.
Wang Xiaochu, CEO of China Telecom, admitted that they were negotiating the introduction of the Blackberry, but there was no timetable.
He pointed out that more smartphones were being launched in the market besides iPhone, which meant the dominance of iPhone will be challenged.
