Sino-Italy science and technology cooperation seminar was held at Embassy of Italy in Beijing on September 24, focusing on new technology, climate change, energy, environmental issues and so on. Yao Weike, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC and Riccardo Sessa, Ambassador of Italy in Beijing addressed on the seminar. Many experts including Giuseppina Passiante, Zhang Shujun, Andrea Biondi, Li Lifan etc. delievered speeches at the scene.
Chinese government highly stressed the international cooperation on science and technology, and sees the EU and its menber state as the significant partners. China and the EU signed the science and technology cooperation agreement in 1998, and had conducted the effective cooperation. The agreement promoted greatly the cooperation between both sides on the fields such as key scientific research, energy and information ect., and improved Sino-EU economic and trade ties.

The logo of the seminarItaly, an important member state of the EU, was one of the earliest western countries signing the intergovernmental science and technology agreement with China. Last year, both countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of signing the agreement in Rome, Italy. Since it taking effects in 1978, the agreement had become the most important part of comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Italy.
