Chinese President Hu Jintao on Monday met Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon and Uzbek President Islam Karimov ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and discussed bilateral economic and trade ties with them.

He expressed China's readiness to work with these countries to push forward cooperation and to tackle the global downturn.

China-Kyrgyzstan

When meeting Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Chinese President Hu Jintao said relations between the two countries continue to flourish.

China, Hu said, supports Kyrgyzstan in choosing a development path that meets its domestic situation. Hu said that China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to promote friendly, cooperative relations between the two countries.

China-Kyrgyzstan cooperation has expanded in various fields in recent years with a strong momentum in bilateral trade. The two countries should use large-scale projects to boost their trade and economic cooperation, Hu said.

The Chinese president also said the ongoing global economic crisis is continuing to spread and negatively impact the economic and social development of all countries.

The international community has reached a consensus that all countries should join hands to combat the difficulties. China, Hu said, is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, jointly deal with the economic downturn and advance the sound and steady development of the two economies.

Bakiev, for his part, said that Kyrgyzstan-China relations are developing rapidly with smooth cooperation in various areas, including the economy and trade.

Hu said China hopes that the SCO summit will send a strong signal to the world that the participants will work together to overcome the economic crisis.

He said that Kyrgyzstan appreciates China's aid for its economic and social development, and is willing to enhance cooperation with China in battling the economic crisis and in such fields as transport, trade and mineral exploration.

China-Tajikistan

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon agreed in the meeting to make joint efforts to expand cooperation.

President Hu said China stands ready to work with Tajikistan to implement the consensus and agreements reached between the two countries, boost bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields, jointly meet the challenges brought about by the financial crisis and push for regional economic recovery. China is also willing to cooperate with Tajikistan in mining, agriculture and other large-scale joint projects.

China is ready to help Tajikistan build an agricultural technology center that is designed to increase food output and promote personnel training, and China hopes the two sides make efforts to improve the investment environment and protect the legitimate interests of enterprises and citizens, Hu said.

Rakhmon said the two countries have seen their bilateral cooperation enriched and personnel exchanges increased. Economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily, with trade volume rising continuously and the Chinese aid projects underway. Tajikistan appreciates China's support and aid and is ready to enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, mining, finance and in other areas.

China-Uzbekistan

At the meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov, President Hu Jintao said relations between China and Uzbekistan have witnessed healthy and stable growth since the two countries established friendly and partnership relations in 2005.

Hu proposed that the two countries give full play to the intergovernmental economic and trade cooperation committee, boost cooperation in trade, economy, transport, energy, telecommunications, light industry and agriculture, and maintain the momentum for the growth of two-way trade to promote social and economic development of both countries.

China stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Uzbekistan in the financial sector, jointly guard against global financial risks and promote the healthy and stable economic and financial development of both countries, he said.

Karimov, for his part, said Uzbekistan appreciates its relationship with China, which features friendship, mutual trust and cooperation. Uzbekistan appreciates China's continued supply of aid over a long period of time, especially the sincere help and support provided by China at times of hardship for Uzbekistan.

Amid the current global financial crisis, Uzbekistan is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in such sectors as the economy, trade, energy and natural resources to jointly tackle the financial crisis. Uzbekistan is willing to strengthen cooperation with China within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and enhance coordination in international affairs, Karimov said.

China hopes that the SCO summit will send a strong signal to the world that the participants will work together to overcome the economic crisis, said President Hu.
