As China's economy shows signs of recovery, the employment situation for migrant workers is becoming increasingly stabilized, according to a recent survey.
Finding work close to one's hometown has become a majority choice for migrant workers returning home. The number of migrant rural workers from Chongqing who are now working in the city increased by about 4.3 percent in the first quarter of this year, according to a survey conducted in Chongqing.
In Anhui in eastern China, about 250,000 migrant workers returning home have found work locally. Anhui Province has also planned to create a further one million jobs for migrant workers within the year.
Another highlight for migrant workers returning home is the promotion of employment. It is estimated that in China, an individually-owned business can provide at least two job opportunities, while a private enterprise is able to provide 13. Many regions in China have put forward preferential policies such as technical training and small-sum loans to help migrant workers returning home set up their own businesses in their hometowns.
Up to now, Henan Province has issued small guaranteed loans of 117.41 million yuan to 2,972 migrant workers to start up their own businesses.
Working outside one's hometown is still the main choice for migrant workers. As China's economy starts to bottom out and the economy in the southeast coast continues to recover, the demand for migrant workers has begun to pick up.
This year, Shanghai implemented a policy of granting subsidies for on-the-job migrant workers' technical training to enterprises in financial difficulty, so as to secure more jobs.
At the end of June, of the 3.6 million migrant workers from Chongqing who have returned to rural areas, only about 100,000 still remained in their hometowns.
