The Singapore government will embark on a 1.8 million Singapore dollars (about 1.25 million U.S. dollars) program to enhance the capabilities of the sustainable energy industry in the country next year.
Supported by several Singapore government agencies, the Local Enterprise and Association Development (LEAD) program is expected to generate a 39 million Singapore dollars in value-add, 130 million Singapore dollars in revenue and 245 new jobs over the next three years, according to a statement by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore on Tuesday.
With the recent announcement by the government to increase the target value-add to the energy industry by 70 percent from 20 billion Singapore dollars to 34 billion Singapore dollars by 2015, the new program will help to develop this young but fast-growing industry, said the statement.
Some of the new plans under the program include incubating and nurturing start-ups, hosting the key global industry events such as Carbon Asia Forum to explore new business and technology partnerships for Singapore, as well as generating new jobs and training.
The LEAD program is a multi-agency initiative, aiming to enhance industry and enterprise competitiveness by partnering industry associations willing to drive industry development initiatives to improve the overall capabilities of local enterprises in their sectors.
