A pickup truck lost balance and plunged into a canal in a southern Philippine city, killing three people while wounding nine others, local media reported Monday.

Police initial report identified three fatalities as local villagers and the wounded were said to sustain wounds and fractures, Philippine television network GMA News said.

The report said the pickup was moving at high speed when the accident occurred along a local highway.

It said most of the victims were sitting at the back of the pickup while it passed by the canal in Butuan City of the Agusan De Norte Province in southern Mindanao island.
