Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi expects a 30-percent increase in sales in Indonesia next year following an expected increase in the demand for light and mid-size trucks.
Local subsidiary PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian (KTB) said the government's program to speed up infrastructure projects and revitalize the economy, particularly in the plantation and mining sectors would be a boost for sales of the company's trucks such as the Colt Diesel and Fuso. "The expected surge in the plantation and mining sectors in particular will certainly result in a rise in the demand for trucks," KTB president Fumio Kuwayama was quoted Friday by local newspaper The Jakarta Post as saying.
Mitsubishi booked a 20 percent increase in the sales of both passenger and commercial vehicles to 55,229 units during the January to November period this year, or about 13.9 percent of the country's total vehicle sales, which reached 397,319 units.
At present, KTB owns two assembly plants in Pulo Gadung Industrial area in East Jakarta, with a capacity of 4,000 vehicles per month for each plant. It has 150 dealers throughout the country.
