Vietnam is estimated to make consumer goods import turnovers of 5.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, up from 2 billion dollars in 2007, local newspaper Labor reported Monday.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, among the country's all import items in 2008, up to 66.2 percent will be materials and fuels, 26.3 percent machine, equipment and components, and 7.5 percent consumer goods. Its total import turnovers are estimated at 76 billion dollars this year, up 25 percent against last year.

Vietnam is expected to make total export turnovers of more than 59 billion dollars in 2008, up 22 percent over 2007. It is strengthening export and production of materials, accessories and goods for domestic consumption to reduce trade surplus.
