A deputy prime minister of Vietnamhas instructed investor to complete construction of the country'sfirst oil refinery within this year, according to local newspaperYoung People on Wednesday.
Deputy prime minister Hoang Trung Hai on Tuesday asked the project's investor, state-run Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), and contractors to complete the construction of the Dung Quat oil refinery in central Quang Ngai province with annual processing capacity of 6.5 million tons of crude oil, and put itinto trial operation in 2008. Once becoming operational, therefinery will meet 30-35 percent of the country's energy demand.
The Vietnamese government is calling for foreign investors toestablish joint ventures and wholly foreign-invested enterprisesto develop the country's second and third oil refineries incentral Thanh Hoa province and southern Ba Ria Vung Tau province.
