The Japanese top automaker, Toyota Motor Corp, plans to assemble diesel sports utility vehicle Fortuner in its Indonesian plant and considers overseas sales, an executive said Saturday.
Local subsidiary PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMI) has already produced and exported hundreds of petrol Fortuners to countries in the Middle East.
The diesel version will first be delivered to neighboring Philippines.
"At the initial stage, the export will comprise 5,000 units, completely built up," TMMI quality control division head Asfrisca Dwinugraha was quoted by leading news website Detikcom as saying.
The TMMI plant has a production capacity of 100,000 units a year and produces nearly 7,500 Fortuners and seven-seat Innova vans per month for domestic and export sales. Source: Xinhua
