The U.S. dollar on Monday temporarily decreased to the upper 95 yen level for the first time since August 1995.
At 5 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 97.36-39 yen, against Friday's 5 p.m. quotes of 98.95-99.05 yen in New York and 100.27-30 yen in Tokyo.
The dollar moved between 95.77 yen and 99.12 yen, changing hands most frequently at 97.00 yen.
The euro traded at 1.5763-5766 dollars and 153.50-54 yen, against late Friday's quotes of 1.5670-5680 dollars and 155.10-20 yen in New York, and 1.5590-5593 dollars and 156.35-39 yen in Tokyo.
The euro hit 1.5905 dollars at one point against the dollar, the highest level since the European currency was introduced in 1999.
