Tokyo stocks closed higher for a third consecutive day Thursday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 252.17 points, or 1.92 percent, from Wednesday to 13,398.30.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 21.44 points, or 1.69 percent, to 1,293.32.
On the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered declining ones 1,255 to 339, with 128 others remaining unchanged.
Volume leader Nippon Steel increased 11 yen, or over 2 percent, to 540 yen.
Trading volume on the main section hit 1,863.31 million shares, up from Wednesday's 1,793.75 million.
The TSE's Second Section index gained 16.27 points, or 0.59 percent, to 2,768.40 on a volume of 49.85 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term June Nikkei 225 index futures contract was up 240 points to 13,440. Source:Xinhua
