Tokyo stocks rose sharply Monday morning.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 221.24 points, or 1.64 percent, from Friday to 13,697.69.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 23.49 points, or 1.80 percent, to 1,327.55.
