Japan's new vehicle sales, excluding mini vehicles, totaled 232,993 units in April, a 6.9 percent rise on a year-on-year basis, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.
Of the vehicle sold in April, passenger car sales rose by 9.4 percent to 201,155 units whereas bus and truck sales lost 6.4 percent and 2.6 percent to 30,662 units and 1,176 units respectively, said the industry body.
In terms of engine size, cars with more than 2000 cc engines posted a sharp rise of 20.5 percent in sales to 90,703 units while smaller cars gained by 1.8 percent to 110,452 units.
As for Japan's five major automakers, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mazda reported advances of 8.8 percent, 11.5 percent, 4.7 percent and 5.9 percent in sales respectively, with Mitsubishi recording a decline of 13.7 percent. Source: Xinhua
