Tokyo stocks topped the 14,000 line Friday for the first time in about two months.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 282.40 points, or 2.05 percent, from Thursday to 14,049.26.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 31.29 points, or 2.3 percent, to 1,377.39.
On the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered declining ones 1,443 to 204, with 75 others remaining unchanged.
Trading volume on the main section amounted to 1,716.94 million shares, up from Thursday's 1,700.46 million.
The TSE's Second Section index rose 29.71 points, or 1.03 percent, to 2,903.36 on a volume of 56.97 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term June Nikkei 225index futures contract went 270 points to 14,060. Source: Xinhua
