The Australia share market closed weaker on Wednesday, dragged down by weaker banking stocks.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 33 points, or 0.58 percent, to 5668.4 and the broader All Ordinaries lost 20.1 points, or 0.35 percent, to 5757.8.
Total market turnover was 2.06 billion shares worth 6.26 billion dollars (5.92 billion U .S. dollars), with 610 stocks rising, 674 falling and 294 unchanged. In the banking sector, ANZ lost 60 cents to 22.30 dollars, Westpac shed 81 cents to 24.79 dollars, National Australia Bank dropped 92 cents to 30.50 dollars and Commonwealth Bank fell 1.35 dollars to 41.90 dollars.
In the resources sector, BHP Billiton advanced 87 cents to 45.29 dollars and Rio Tinto gained 3.33 dollars to 145.26 dollars. (1Australian dollar equals 0.946 US dollar) Source: Xinhua
