The Vietnamese government has told relevant agencies and sectors to ensure sufficient supply of petroleum products nationwide in all circumstances, and not to raise their retail prices at least until the end of June, local newspaper Pioneer reported Wednesday.
After June, if world oil prices surge sharply, the government will have specific measures to stabilize prices of the products, especially diesel oil and kerosene, the newspaper quoted Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu as saying.
Filling stations, which cease selling petroleum products without rational reasons will have their licenses revoked, he said, noting that Vietnam's petroleum reserves are now big enough to ensure the supplies in all localities and circumstances. The country has some 10,000 filling stations, of which 3,000 are state-owned.
Vietnam plans to establish a fund designated to stabilize prices of petroleum products in the domestic market in the future, he said.
