A joint decree allowing the use of domestic funding to procure weaponry is expected to be issued in the next two weeks, Indonesian Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono said Wednesday.
"Vice president Jusuf Kalla has requested the joint decree to be issued to smoothen weaponry procurement," he was quoted in newspaper The Jakarta Post's website as saying.
The decree will regulate the use of state-owned bank funds to procure domestically made weaponry.
Juwono said Kalla had also ordered related ministries to help design the defense industry's long-term plan for the state-owned arms maker PT Pindad, aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia and shipbuilder PT PAL.
Juwono also said his ministry was mapping out what weaponry was needed, which would take about 10 years to achieve. Source:Xinhua
