An amendment to the air services agreement between the Philippines and China's Hong Kong will pave the way for local airlines to fly to Hong Kong from Clark and other places in the country, according to local media on Thursday.
The new air pact also gives Philippine and Hong Kong carriers 23,000 seat entitlements weekly, Philippine TV network GMA News reported.
Under the agreement, Philippine carriers will fill up to 15,000seats per week for flights to Hong Kong from Metro Manila's the Ninoy Aquino International Airport; up to 6,300-weekly seats for Clark to Hong Kong flights; and up to 2,500 seats per week from Cebu and other airports outside of Manila.
Seat entitlements between Manila and Hong Kong stood at 13,000 per week before. For Cebu to Hong Kong flights, only 2,300 passengers per week were allowed. There were also no flights from Clark and other remaining airports then.
Besides seat entitlements for Clark, the Philippine Air Panel also secured 1,400 tons of cargo per week for the Clark route or around three Boeing 747 cargo planes per day for Clark and up to 400 tons per week from the previous 300 tons for Manila to Hong Kong route.
