Afghan government has sacked Syed Aqa Saqib, the police chief of Kandahar province in south Afghanistan, in the wake of prison break by Taliban insurgents, a press release of interior ministry said Thursday.

Investigation into the case of jail break in Kandahar has indicated that negligence by some officials had facilitated militants to break up the jail and so, the police chief of Kandahar province Syed Aqa Saqib and some other officials have been dismissed and introduced to Attorney General for interrogation, the press release added.

Taliban militants in a surprise attack exploded the Kandahar jail and enabled more than 1,000 including hundreds of Taliban detainees to escape early this month.

Interior ministry in the press release also added that no one will be allowed to contribute to instability in the country.

Attacks on international troops are on the rise during past weeks especially in southern and eastern Afghanistan where the Taliban militants continue to demonstrate their strength through suicide and roadside bombings.

Escalating insurgency and violent incidents have left around 2,000 people dead since January this year in the war-torn Afghanistan.
