Roadside bomb and gun fire claimed the lives of four persons including two police and two soldiers in Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said.

In the first incident, a mine planted by Taliban insurgents struck a police van in Nurkh district of Wardak province left two policemen dead, a local police officer, Hamid Jan, told Xinhua.

in the other incident, unknown armed men shot dead two Afghan soldiers in Khost province on the same day, senior police officer Mohammad Yaqub said.

Afghanistan has witnessed a surge of violence and riot throughout the south and east since Taliban militants launched a jail break on June 13.

Militancy and conflicts have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people with over 700 civilians in Afghanistan so far this year.
