Indonesian ornamental fish export kept decreasing due to the persistently flight ban imposed by the European Union (EU).
Most Indonesian fish exporters used to choose Garuda, the largest state-owned airlines in Indonesia, for delivery. But since the ban was imposed in June 2007, they have to turn to foreign airlines in Jakarta to ship the fish to Europe.
"From Jakarta to European countries, we can take foreign airlines, such as Lufthansa from Germany and KLM from the Netherlands," said Suyat no, chairman of the Indonesian Corals, Shells and Ornamental Fish Association (AKKII) on Friday. "But we can not use them to transport from other areas around the archipelago to foreign countries."
"So the business is dead," he added.
The Indonesia Fishery and Maritime Ministry attempted to deliver fish through Singapore, but many exporters could not afford the high costs.
