Japanese stocks went down 1.41 percent in morning trade on Friday, dropping below the 11,000 points level for the first time in three years.
The benchmark Nikkei-225 index fell 157.78 points at 10,996.98 at the break.
The broader Topix index of all first section shares on Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 25.09 points, or 2.33 percent, to 1,051.88.
