The Indonesian government attempted to boost export to the Latin American countries after the financial crisis hit the United States, according to Detikcom report on Thursday.
"President Yudhoyono plans to lead a trade delegation to the countries in Latin America, such as Chile, Mexico and Peru, to exploit the market," said Bachrul Chairil, head of Indonesian Export Development Board (BPEN).
Bachrul said that some contracts had been initially discussed. And if everything goes smoothly, the plan will proceed further during the APEC meeting in November 2008.
The plan is expected to bring Indonesia a new export destination besides Japan, the United States, and European countries.
According to Bachrul, Indonesia has sent 18 trade mission delegates to African through Indonesian Chamber and Commerce (KADIN), aiming at the expanding market in the continent.
