Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Paul Heytens Thursday said the global financial crisis would not affect ADB's assistance to Bangladesh.
"I don't see any immediate issue coming up right now (to affect ADB's assistance)," he told reporters after a meeting with caretaker government Finance and Planning Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam and was quoted by private news agency UNB.
Heytens said ADB would make sure to continue financing around 50 ongoing projects in Bangladesh worth 3.2 billion U.S. dollars to help the country strengthen its capacity of economic growth and creating employment opportunities.
He said the total disbursement for Bangladesh from the bank would stand at 600 million U.S. dollars in the year 2008.
Bangladesh joined the ADB in 1973 and, as of Dec. 31, 2007, cumulative public sector lending amounted to about 9.27 billion U.S. dollars for 186 loans, with 178.6 million U.S. dollars for technical assistance grants for 324 projects.
