Iraq plans to pump more oil next year, an Iraqi official said here Thursday in Jordan's capital of Amman.

Iraq is expected to increase its daily oil output by some 200,000 barrels next year as new oil wells will be put into operation, Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said.

According to Shahristani, the daily oil output in 2008 stands at 2.3 to 2.4 million barrels.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Finance Minister Bayan Jabor announced here that the country will trim down the 2009 budget spending from previous 80 billion U.S. dollars to 67 billion dollars due to the slump of oil prices.

The new budget is based on an oil price of 62 dollars a barrel instead of 80 dollars per barrel in the previous version.

Shahristani and Jabor, along with Iraq's central bank governor Sinan al-Shibibi, came to Amman for a meeting with officials from the International Monetary Fund.
