The Bank of Japan (BOJ) on Friday revised its projection for Japan's economic growth in fiscal 2008 sharply down to 0.1 percent from the previously estimated 1.2 percent.

The central bank made the revision in its biannual Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices report, citing a slowdown in its economy dragged by the current global financial crisis.

In the report, the BOJ also lowered the estimate for the growth in real GDP to 0.6 percent in fiscal 2009, down from a 1.5 percent expansion projected in July.
