17,000 pirated DVDs and games seized in raid in Sydney

Police and investigators from the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT) have seized more than 17,000 pirated DVDs and video games after raiding a shopin Sydney's west.

Officers seized an illegal DVD burner and 17,582 DVDs and games valued at more than 350,000 dollars (214 000 U.S. dollars) at a shop in Homebush Bay west about 4.30 p.m. local time on Friday, Australian Associated Press quoted the police as said.

The maximum penalty for copyright crimes is 60,500 dollars (37,000 U.S. dollars) and/or up to five years jail per offence.

Inquiries are continuing, police said.
