Malaysia is looking at preparing its National Single Window and get it ready by the end of this year to embrace the ASEAN Single Window (ASW), a Malaysian leading e-commerce service provider said here on Monday.
Four of the five core services in the first stage of Malaysia's National Single Window have been ready, said Zaharin Ali, chief operating officer of Malaysia's Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd which had been commissioned to develop, maintain and operate the system in the country.
The fifth service is to be officially launched or started on Jan. 1 next year, he was quoted as saying by Malaysia's national news agency Bernama.
The five services are electronic customs declarations, electronic duty payments, electronic manifests, electronic permits and electronic preferential certificates of origin.
In December 2005, the ASEAN Economic Ministers signed an agreement to establish and implement the ASEAN Single Window (ASW) for trade facilitation through electronic processing of trade document at the national and regional levels.
The ASW Model is scheduled to be in operation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to speed up the clearance of imports for the ASEAN countries, the ASEAM secretariat said in its 2005-2006 annual report.
Zaharin said the concept was to build a single gateway where all the ASEAN countries would be able to tap on a singular database for sharing of information. Source: Xinhua
