Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd held talks on Wednesday with other world leaders over telephone ahead of the G20 leaders' meeting in Washington later this week.
A spokeswoman for Rudd said the prime minister spoke by phone to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Argentina President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to prepare for the G20 summit meeting.
The three leaders agreed on the importance of the Washington meeting in supporting the global economy and helping to stabilize financial markets.
They agreed the process of reform of the international financial system should begin to prevent a similar global crisis in the future, the spokeswomen said.
"All three are committed to doing what they can to achieve a good outcome at the Washington meeting itself and during the period after," she added.
Rudd leaves for Washington on Thursday to take part in the meeting which will discuss the global financial crisis and what can be done to avoid another one in the future.
