The Indonesian delegation to the APEC meeting Thursday suggested APEC member economies accelerate the negotiations of Doha Development Agenda (DDA) to help their economies recover from the global crisis.

"APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) really plays a significant role in settling the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) as the 21 member economies cover 50 percent of the world trade and 60 percent of the world gross domestic product," said Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu at a press conference via phone.

The APEC members were expected to maintain markets open by avoiding implement protectionism policies.

"Protectionism can be a major obstacle to liberalizing trade and recovering from the crisis. And the most important thing is how we can achieve the settlement of DDA before the end of the year. Otherwise, there will be more unfinished agenda in 2009," she said.
