Tokyo stocks continued to fall sharply Friday morning, as investor sentiment was worsened by another overnight tumble on Wall Street and a stronger yen relative to the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 170.93 points, or 2.22 percent, from Thursday to 7,532.11. The Nikkei fell nearly 7 percent on Thursday and ended below the 8,000 line for the first time in three weeks.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 18.47 points, or 2.36 percent, to 763.81.

Stocks declined almost across the board, led by insurance, consumer, finance and rubber product issues. Precision machinery shares were the only gainer.
