Tokyo stocks extended winning streak for a seventh trading day on Wednesday as investors continued to be optimistic about incoming Barack Obama's administration and its economic policies.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 158.40 points, or 1.74 percent, from Tuesday to 9,239.24. The last time the Nikkei rose for seven trading days in a row was March 24 to April 3 in 2006.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 12.05 points, or 1.38 percent, to 888.25.
