The heads of South Korea's major economic think tanks said
on June 18,2009 the South Korean government should keep up with its current economic policy "for the time being," as an economic recovery still needs time.

During a meeting between 10 economic think tank chiefs and Finance Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun, the heads expressed their opinion that a change in the policy may be too hasty as it could "undermine the growth trend."

"As it is expected to take time to see an economic recovery coming, we need to stick to the current policy stance for the time being," a participant was quoted as saying.

The meeting with the think tank chiefs was held for the second time since Minister Yoon took office, amid the government's move to shape its economic policy direction for the second half.

The South Korean government is scheduled to announce its broad economic policy direction for the second half next week.

Earlier in the week, the finance minister said South Korea will continue with its current expansionary macroeconomic policy until the economy is sure to make a full recovery.
