Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh said that achieving the nation's goals for macro-economic growth in 2009-2010 fiscal year will be more difficult compared to the previous years, the Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Wednesday.

The minister made the statement at a monthly government meeting. The meeting was to discuss measures to implement the plans of socio-economic development and state budget for 2009-2010, said the newspaper.

The national economic recession caused by the global financial crisis and the spread of the A/H1N1 influenza in the country would create difficulties for Laos to reach the macro-economic targets, said the minister.

The Lao government targeted to reach the national economic growth of at least 7.5 percent for the fiscal year of 2009-2010. The national revenue and expenditure would be of about 20 and 23 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) respectively.
