Jordan's budget deficit reached 763.2 million Jordanian dinars (966 million U.S. dollars) during the first eight months of 2009 taking foreign assistance into account, compared to 147.3 million dinars during the same period in 2008.
Jordan's budget deficit without foreign assistance reached 865.9 million dinars during the January-August period compared to 333.4 million dinars during the same period last year, according to Finance Ministry figures obtained by Xinhua.
Domestic revenues during the first eight months of 2009 stood at about 2.8 billion dinars, of which about 2 billion dinars were generated from tax revenues.
Foreign aid from the beginning of 2009 until August amounted to102.7 million dinars, while foreign assistance reached 480.7 million dinars during the same period in 2008, according to the figures.
The government has recently announced that work is underway on the 2010 state budget, noting that it will entail reducing the deficit through cutting capital expenditure.
The figures also revealed that Jordan's public debt stood at about 9.3 billion dinars during the January-August period, increasing by 9.4 percent compared to the same period last year when it stood at about 8.5 billion dinars.
Of the total public debt, about 5.7 billion dinars are internal debt. (1 U.S. dollar = 0.709 Jordanian dinar)
