Total volume generated on all Visa cards across Asia-Pacific reached 981 billion U.S. dollars for the 12 months ended June 30 this year, the Visa company said on Wednesday.
This is an increase of 13 percent over the previous 12 months, calculated on a constant dollar basis.
The retail electronic payments network said the results may suggest very early signs of improving confidence in the region and that consumers and businesses may be beginning to spend more.
Total volume in Asia Pacific for the second quarter increased 30 billion U.S. dollars to 259 billion U.S. dollars compared with the previous quarter.
Looking at individual countries, the payment volume growth in China was extremely strong, according to Visa.
The total number of cards in force in Asia-Pacific grew by 40 million year-on-year to 512 million cards. Asia Pacific accounted for 30 percent of the 1.7 billion Visa cards on issue globally.
