Indonesia urged to take profit on global economy recovery in 2010

Indonesia's National Development Planning Agency said that 2010 is the year of the global economy awakening so that the country must take profit of the momentum to achieve economic growth of at least 5.5 percent, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Monday.
The Minister of National Development Planning who is also the Chairwoman of the agency Armida Alisjahbana said that the target was the initial step before the government take moves to accelerate it.
She said that the way is expected to minimize unemployment and poverty
"2010 is the year of the global economy awakening that should be used by our country so that various problems could be mapped in order to focus on (economic) acceleration in 2011," he said in Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java over the weekend.
Armida elaborated some acceleration efforts for gross domestic product (GDP) growth, namely restructuring of Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the state-run power company, revision of law concerning on cooperation between government and business parties in providing infrastructure, among others.
According to her, economic growth acceleration should be prepared as soon as possible by, among others, settling problem related to electricity availability to support all sectors' needs.
The Special Staff of Finance Minister M. Chatib Basri said that target of 5 percent to 5.5 percent is very likely to be achieved.
"However, the condition could be fulfilled if there's no political turbulence that would derail economic stability," he said.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said that the country is optimistic to achieve economic growth of 5.5 percent to 6 percent in 2010 as global and structural recovery is underway.
