SK Telecom, in cooperation with local companies, have established a Game License Bank (GLB) system earlier this month where registration, management, and distribution of mobile game licenses are permitted online, and on Monday launched an online website where local companies can request overseas sales of mobile contents to advance into foreign markets, including China, the company said.
The company said it expects to see some 300 mobile games to request overseas sales through its system, and after review, plans to release 60 to 100 localized programs in China by the second half of this year.
The South Korean mobile carrier added it will distribute and manage such mobile contents in China through local carriers, including Viatech Inc. and UNISK.
The South Korean local market for mobile games is estimated to grow into a 385 million U.S. dollar industry by this year, a 22 percent growth from the previous year, and the Chinese mobile gaming contents market is projected to be worth more than 1 billion U.S. dollars by the end of the year, according to the state-run Korea Creative Content Agency.
