Bangladesh's imports surge over 7% in 2009-10 fiscal

Bangladesh's overall imports surged 7.11 percent to nearly 23 billion U.S. dollars in last fiscal year 2009-10 (July 2009-June 2010) the central bank data showed Tuesday.
According to statistics of the Bangladesh Bank (BB), the settlement of letters of credit, generally known as actual imports, stood at 22.969 billion U.S. dollars in 2009-10 fiscal year, and overall import orders, however, increased by 31.44 percent over the previous fiscal year to 28.656 billion U.S. dollars.
The South Asian country's actual imports grew 5.26 percent to 21.444 billion U.S. dollars in the previous 2008-09 fiscal year.
