The total number of mergers and acquisitions in Brazil reached 135 in 2007, up 104.5 percent from 66 operations carried out in 2006, the National Investment Banks Association announced Tuesday.
The value of those types of operations amounted to 114.2 billion reais (66 billion U.S. dollars) last year, up 14.9 percent from 99.4 billion reais (57.5 billion dollars) in 2006.
A total of 15 operations were made in shareholding structure changes and in public offerings of acquisition in 2007, in which 27 billion reais (15.6 billion dollars) were negotiated, up 27.4 percent from 37.2 billion reais (21.5 billion dollars) negotiated in 10 operations of that type in the previous year.
The volume of acquisitions held by foreign companies in the country topped at 31.8 billion reais (18.4 billion dollars) last year, while that held by Brazilian companies reached 19 billion reais (11 billion dollars) in the same period. Source: Xinhua
