Gasoline prices continued their upward trend on Friday in Southern California, which has the highest gasoline prices in the U.S. mainland.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose by 8.3 cents this week, the smallest increase in a month, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported.

The Los Angeles County average now stands at 4.626 dollars a gallon -- 70 cents more than last month and 1.41 dollars more than at this time last year, according to the Auto Club.

This was the 11th time in the past 12 weeks that the average price of self-serve regular unleaded has hit record highs in Southern California.

The Los Angeles County average increased 20.4 cents from June 6-12; 22.7 cents from May 30-June 5; 15.3 cents from May 23-29; 4.5 cents from May 16-22 and 1.8 cents from May 9-15.
