The conference of gas technical teams for "Caribbean oil plan" ended on August 29 at S. Domingo, the hospital of Dominica. A plan to build a gas pipeline connecting Dominica and Haiti was announced at the conference.
This information was provided by Minister of the Dominican Finance Ministry, Vicente Bengoa. He also revealed that there are two options for the project being designed by Dominican and Venezuelan technicians: One would start from the south and cover some 300 kilometers and whose cost would be US$105 million; the other would run from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata, then by way of Haiti to the south of the Dominican Republic. This option would cost US$326 million. Dominica and Haiti will pay the cost of construction within their borders separately. Rosa, spokesperson for the National Oil Corporation of Venezuela, said that participating nations will decide the final plan in the next few months. According to both plans, pipeline installation would last between 12 and 24 months.
