New Zealand's negotiations to secure a free trade agreement (FTA) with Malaysia will resume next week, Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Monday.

The negotiations were put on hold in April 2006, while Malaysia worked on its own FTA with the United States and New Zealand focused on its trade agreement with China.

Clark told a press conference that a "refreshed mandate" had been issued and negotiations with Malaysia would start again.
