California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will meet with state legislative leaders to discuss a budget special session for next month and proposals to stimulate the souring economy, a spokesman said Thursday.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday at Schwarzenegger's office in Sacramento, the state capital, according to spokesman Aaron McLear.
The Republican governor said earlier this week that he was seeking a special legislative session after the November 4 presidential election to close an estimated 3-billion-dollar revenue gap in the state budget.
With Wall Street financial crisis and the global credit crunch, the current economic situation already has challenged assumptions built into the state budget signed by Schwarenegger last month.
During the meeting, Schwarzenegger could also raise at least two previous "economic stimulus" proposals he wanted earlier this year.
One proposal would enable more state partnerships with private firms on public works projects, while the other would relax laws requiring overtime pay for workers who spend more than eight hours on the job, according to the spokesman.
