The Chilean and Russian governments Thursday inked an agreement on guaranteeing the security and quality of Chilean fruits and vegetables exported to Russia.
Under the deal, all fruits and vegetables shipped from Chile to Russia should follow a series of operation procedures as from April 1 to comply with Russian regulations such as the one on the maximum amount of wasters.
The document, signed in Russia, shows Chile's importance as a major producer of quality food in the world, said Reinaldo Ruiz, Vice Minister of Agriculture from Chile.
"This achievement confirms that we are doing the right thing, and the country is able to offer the best product to the world," the minister said.
Chile will continue to widen markets and make more efforts to strengthen its power as an agricultural exporter, Ruiz added.
Russia is the second biggest European market for Chile's agricultural products.
