U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Tuesday that the Congress was open to introducing a second stimulus plan to revive the ailing economy.
"It will take a little time to get going, some of it's already in the works, but we must give it time to work," said Pelosi, referring to the 787-billion-dollar stimulus package approved last month.
"You have to keep the door open to see how this goes," she told reporters following a House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on the economy.
Pelosi's remarks were echoed by Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Economy.com.
"We are going to need more taxpayer money up front," said Zandi."I think another stimulus package is a reasonable probability given where things are going."
The Obama administration has not ruled out a second stimulus package, but it has not indicated a second bill is currently in the making either.
"We need to let medicine work for a while," Christina Romer, Chair of White House Council of Economic Advisors, said on Monday at the Brookings Institution.
