An exclusive poll conducted by New York TV channel NY1 shows that half of New Yorkers have stopped going to restaurants and more than half have cut back on basic household expenses, according to a report available on NY1 website Sunday.

This telephone poll conducted from May 12 to 16 also reveals, 63 percent of New Yorkers are worried that family members may lose jobs, homes or health insurance this year.

Compared with what more than half of the respondents NY1 inquired of in January said that it was likely they or their family member would lose job, home or health insurance this year, it seems most New Yorkers are still anxious.

The under 30s, who may be the easiest to lay off because of their lack of seniority, are also worried now, says the poll.

The most educated and wealthiest are the least vulnerable and they are the least concerned, just as they were in January, it says.

This telephone poll of a random sample of 754 New York City residents (including 595 registered voters), was conducted for NY1 by Baruch College Survey Research.
