Wall Street fell in early trading on June 25, as the number of people filing first-time claims for jobless benefits unexpectedly increased last week.
The U.S. Labor Department said new jobless claims rose by 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 627,000. Economists had expected a drop to 600,000 claims.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Commerce Department said on June 25 the revised reading on gross domestic product shows the economy tumbled at a 5.5 percent pace in the first quarter, better than the 5.7 percent annualized decline reported a month ago.
The Dow Jones lost 17.91 to 8,281.95. Broader indexes also moved lower. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dipped 2.55 to 898.39; and the Nasdaq fell 6.21 to 1,785.93.
